10 December 2001

Media release – Māori Affairs Committee

2000/01 Financial Review of the Ministry of Māori Development
(Te Puni Kōkiri)

Parliament’s Māori Affairs Committee today tabled its report on the 2000/01 financial review of Te Puni Kōkiri in the House of Representatives.

Main areas examined by the committee were:
 background to the ministry
 outstanding issues
 financial performance
 effectiveness in ‘Reducing Inequalities’
 monitoring performance
 Māori television

The committee noted that Te Puni Kōkiri received ‘good’ audit assessments of financial and service performance management. These have all remained consistent from the 1999/2000 financial review. The committee is pleased to note that Te Puni Kōkiri is maintaining a ‘good’ level of financial and service performance management assessments.

The committee noted that some robust information was received from Te Puni Kōkiri regarding benchmarks and evaluations of the ‘Reducing Inequalities’ programmes.
