Greens Want to Enforce A Science-Free New Zealand

Published: Thu 9 Aug 2001 11:27 AM
The vacuum created by Government inertia over the response to the Royal Commission on GM is being filled by the hysterical Greens, ACT Environment Spokesman Gerry Eckhoff says.
"After demanding a $6 million inquiry the Greens now reject the positive findings and a using local body politicians to force a science-free NZ on the population.
"The Greens are using the GM debate to promote their fundamentalist vision of utopia which would reject technology, reject science and embrace a return to the 19 th century.
"Their approach ' to impose their values for NZ ' is to now use the local body process through the RMA. Clearly they believe a resource consent is needed to develop GM-based research for cures to diseases such as MS and Parkinsons. How long will Helen Clark remain silent?
"The future lies with technology, whether the Government or the Greens understand that or not.
"The Greens are subscribing to a new religion of environmental fundamentalism and their target is science.
"The RMA must not be used by gullible local councils to impose the Greens' narrow view on the population," Gerry Eckhoff said.
