Jennings Challenges Sutton Over Wool Board
ACT MP Owen Jennings is challenging Minister of Agriculture Jim Sutton to take firm action over allegations of mismanagement of the wool industry's future by the Wool Board.
"The shocking waste of growers funds and the manipulation of grower-led commercial initiatives by the Board must stop," Owen Jennings said.
"The Minister must deal with allegations of misuse of power, misfeasance, breaches of fiduciary duty, breaches of trust, and dishonesty.
"These allegations are coming from senior industry leaders and have the backing of a Queen's Counsel.
"The Minister is ultimately accountable for the Board's actions. He can no longer sit on his hands. Growers know exactly what they want. They voted two years ago to disband the Board and reclaim their reserve funds.
"The Minister has no excuse. The industry has spoken loudly and clearly: Mr Sutton should act.
"The Government's current stance of waiting for the Board to come up with its own 'solutions' is unacceptable," Owen Jennings said.
