Equal Pay - Still A Big Issue And Needed Today
Alliance MP Liz Gordon will highlight the issue of equal pay for women in a number of speaking engagements in Dunedin tomorrow.
From the first day that women go to work, there is a gender pay gap. The higher the qualifications, the higher the average pay and the bigger the gap.
Even though individual women may do very well, there are signs that the pay gap is widening overall, especially in the high paying parts of the state sector. This is despite the fact that women have outperformed men at nearly all levels of the education system for a number of years.
