ACC Will Pay Out To Criminals When Injured

Published: Wed 25 Jul 2001 04:26 PM
“Moves by the Government to speal out the entitlement to compensation for criminals who become injured whilst carrying out crimes, is an insult to the millions of honest and hard working New Zealanders,” said Peter Brown, New Zealand First MP and ACC Spokesperson.
“We all know of instances in the past where criminals have been rewarded for being dishonest. The prospect of having this right cemented into legislation illustrates how out of touch this Labour/Alliance Coalition Government has become,” he said.
“We once prided ourselves on being a nation of industrious, hard working and honest people in New Zealand” said Mr Brown, “but this latest madness on the part of this Government saddens me greatly and will result in large numbers of ACC levy payers looking for loopholes to avoid payment if funds raised are to be squandered in this way.
“Many feel that ACC has become somewhat of an unfair joke over recent years, or at least a bad dream, this absurd move will remove any remaining doubt,” claimed Mr Brown.
“It is fundamentally wrong to reward individuals for engaging in criminal proceedings and to expect honest working people to fund such a corrupt practice, through compulsory levies, will anger them greatly,” concluded Mr Brown.
