Registrar Clears Phillida Bunkle
30 March 2001
Phillida Bunkle is pleased to have been cleared of any wrong doing by the Registrar of Electors for Wellington Central today.
“I am relieved that the Registrar has thoroughly considered all the facts surrounding my enrolment and determined that I have committed no offence. Furthermore the Registrar has not found that my registration was invalid,” said Phillida Bunkle.
“There has been no offence as asserted by Mr Prebble and Mr Sowry. The allegations made by these men have been found to be without foundation. The Registrar has also determined that there has been no intention to mislead, nor any evidence that establishes my enrolment as incorrect.”
“The Registrar, with the help of the Ministry of Justice and Crown Law has been unable to determine quite which electorate I should have been in. This demonstrates that when someone has several homes the law is confusing at best, and therefore the only deciding factor in where an elector should be enrolled is the elector’s own personal choice.”
“The Registrar has accepted that the problem was complicated because my overwhelming priority was the care of my sick family member.”
“I now look forward to having a peaceful weekend with my family with this matter behind me,” Phillida Bunkle said.
