Bunkle report bizarre and inconclusive
"It is bizarre and unacceptable that highly paid officials of the Electoral Enrolment Centre when asked to interpret the
Electoral Act are unable to do so," National's Roger Sowry said today.
"The report on Ms Bunkle establishes that she won't be prosecuted, but it does not vindicate her. There are still a
large number of question marks hanging over what her intent was in claiming this allowance.
"The Audit Office clearly identified that Ms Bunkle's home was in Waikanae, where it noted her 'treasures' were kept. It
beggars belief that the Electoral Enrolment Centre could produce such a weak, limp report in which it cannot decide
whether Ms Bunkle was validly enrolled or not.
"The public will have no such difficulties reaching a conclusion. Ms Bunkle's ever-changing story of her residential
circumstances paints a picture which is very clear in the eyes of most people," Roger Sowry said.
