Cervical Screening Inquiry Report Deadline Extended
Health Minister Annette King has agreed to a request from the Gisborne Cervical Screening Inquiry to extend the deadline for its report to February 28, 2001.
The Committee of Inquiry was due to report back to Mrs King on December 20, but counsel assisting the inquiry Hanne Janes has written to Mrs King seeking the new deadline.
The letter said the committee needed more time to ensure the "requirements of natural justice are met, as well as the Committee being able to provide a quality report to you."
Mrs King said today she understood many women would be disappointed the report had been put back.
"It is clearly essential, however, that the report is done properly and not rushed. I am very keen for it to be the most thorough report it can be."
