Major PR Effort For Coalition’s First Birthday

Published: Wed 6 Dec 2000 05:08 PM
All the government back slapping and self congratulation for delivering on its promises will not hide the fact that low and middle income New Zealanders are worse off now than they were a year ago, said ACT MP Owen Jennings.
“The Minister of Finance admitted today that the statistics do not lie – New Zealanders are all poorer under this Government.
“One would have to question the wisdom of trumpeting about promises kept when the overwhelming result has been a net failure – lower incomes and less wealth for all!
“The facts do not support a Happy Birthday. Higher taxes, higher interest rates, higher petrol prices, higher smoking costs and higher Christmas prices. The list is endless.
“The coalition government needs to stop its delusional self promotion and communicate with the families it claims to represent. Their empty purses mean no Happy Birthday and no Happy Christmas,” said Owen Jennings.
