National's State House Sales
The previous Government sold more than 11,000 state houses.
More than $1 billion in revenue from sales was made but little invested in building new houses
This comprises a regional breakdown of the numbers of properties sold and the proceeds or money the previous Government received for them.
Most sales (more than 2/3) went to private developers.
The state house sales programme was implemented at the same time as the 'market rents' were being charged on state houses
Market rents (which saw state rents rise 106%) and the widespread sale of state houses have been blamed for the overcrowding and hardship experienced in low-income communities
