Media Being Taken For A Ride Over Taxi Chits – Peters
The Rt Hon Winston Peters, Leader of New Zealand First, today said that Rodney Hide MP did not tell the media the real story behind his losing taxi chits and facilitating a restaurant staff free for all at the taxpayers’ expense.
“Mr Hyde says (Dominion 30.11.00) that ‘he lost his book of taxi chits when getting out of a cab in central Auckland on October 30,1998.’ “And further that he reported the loss to Parliamentary Service.
“The facts are that he lost his taxi chit book, Parliamentary Service became aware of that, after which time Mr Hide entered into correspondence with Parliamentary Service. In particular he sought to correct them for calling the place at which he lost the book “a bar” and wrote explicitly that it was a restaurant and, further, they did not want the waiting staff to be charged or investigated further.
“The great perk buster who has made a short career out of attacking other MPs despite his correspondence with Parliamentary Service is asking us, just 2 years later, to believe the incredible if his story is to be reconciled with his written correspondence to Parliamentary Service. That is; that the cab in which he lost the chits was parked inside the restaurant. That’s the only construction you can put on his media explanations now and his parliamentary correspondence back then.
“And I just saw a pig fly past my window,” said Mr Peters.
