Turia bad host for race relations
National MP Tony Ryall says that Tariana Turia has yet again displayed the sort of ideology that no one thought they would get under a Labour Government.
In Parliament today Mr Ryall asked Mrs Turia to explain her comments about when New Zealanders are considered 'guests' and when they are 'hosts' in this country.
"Ms Turia today told Parliament that the majority of New Zealanders are merely 'guests' in their own country. This is because they don't belong to a 'tribe' or they live outside of their 'tribal area'.
"I'm sure this is news to most New Zealanders; both Maori and Pakeha.
"Ms Turia, together with Treaty Minister Ms Wilson, is creating a simmering cocktail of discontent with race relations in New Zealand.
"All over the country people are talking about this government's ideological, ham-fisted approach to race relations.
"All these Ministers are doing is dividing New Zealanders. It's time they ended this madness," Mr Ryall said.
