United New Zealand Supports Singapore Free Trade Agreement
United New Zealand leader, Hon Peter Dunne, says he will vote for the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement with Singapore when it comes before Parliament.
"This issue is too important for New Zealand's future to be derailed now by local political considerations," he says.
Mr Dunne says the parlous state of the New Zealand dollar at present emphasises how important it is for this country to develop trade alliances and partnerships with the powerhouse economies of the region like Singapore.
"I hope that all political parties who share a commitment to open economies and free trade will lay aside their differences and support this agreement."
"While agreements of this type are never word perfect, the Singapore Free Trade Agreement is too important an opportunity for this country for us to let it slip through our fingers at this stage," he says.
