Three Government Ministers will join forces with 91ZMFM next week to urge motorists to keep New Zealand's state highways
clean and safe.
Transport Minister Mark Gosche, Environment Minister and Wellington Central MP Maryann Hobbs and Associate Environment
Minister Philida Bunkle will be handing out car litter bags on Buckle St with radio personality Nick Tansley on Monday.
The ministers want to encourage people to take part in a nationwide state highway clean-up on Saturday, 23 September as
part of Clean Up New Zealand Week.
Transit New Zealand has identified 14 stretches of state highway that will be targetted. These stretches of state
highway are from 1 to 4 kilometres in length, and are on areas of Auckland, Hamilton, Napier, Wanganui, Wellington,
Christchurch and Dunedin state highways. Clean Up teams comprising people 14 years and over will be surpervised by
contractors and Transit staff. Safety is paramount and temporary traffic signs will be established in all areas.
Transit’s contractors will remove all the rubbish collected.
Transit has also provided a cash sponsorship of $10,000 to the Clean Up New Zealand Trust.
