UNITED NEW ZEALAND IS PARLIAMENT'S VOICE OF REASON
United New Zealand is the voice of reason often lacking in contemporary politics, the party's leader, Hon Peter Dunne,
told the Massey University Politics Society today.
Mr Dunne said New Zealanders had had enough of the overwhelming arrogance of the left and the right who continue to
believe that only they have the answers.
"For example, the recent debate on the Employment Relations Act was primarily about whose view of the world was right,
rather than what the best form of industrial law should be."
"This rigid, narrow and destructive adherence to ideological dogma by both sides holds our country back and alienates
many people," he said.
Mr Dunne says by concentrating unashamedly on common sense United was the voice of reason.
"Common sense may not always grab media headlines, but many New Zealanders tell us they are sick and tired of the
current shallow and sensational approach to politics, dominated by shallow, snappy soundbites and cynical stunts."
"They yearn instead for common sense, for politicians who tell like it is, and who just get on with it, without all the
game playing."
"New Zealanders want a country that is a modern multicultural society, free of all its current hang-ups, and built
around the family and its interdependence with strong, caring and compassionate community organisations such as
churches, schools, charitable and other service groups, as these form the basis from which our society springs."
"The hard working mums and dads, who are out on the sidelines at their kid's sports every Saturday, and who just want to
get on with their lives and do their best for their families, without all the hype and nonsense, just want politicians
to do likewise."
"That is the role United New Zealand exists to play," Mr Dunne said.
