Clark owns up to Dover dirt-digging
Helen Clark's confirmation that dirt dug up in the course of Bob Harvey's inquiries led to Dover Samuels' downfall is an extraordinary about-face, Opposition Leader Jenny Shipley said today.
"Just 24 hours ago she described these very allegations as rubbish.
"In her statement today she confirmed Bob Harvey's dealing with a former police officer and an anonymous informant.
"And this evening on Checkpoint she said that she sacked Mr Samuels on the basis of the information that Bob Harvey and Chris Carter established for her.
"The public has had a gutsful all right - of Helen Clark's attempts to play semantics with the facts," Mrs Shipley said.
