You've Seen The Bill, Now Get The Magnet
It's going to take more than a fridge magnet to make the Government's employment relations law stick with business, National Industrial Relations spokesperson Max Bradford said today.
"The mailout of a pop-up leaflet which comes complete with a 'handy fact magnet' is a sure sign of the Government's desperation.
"What do they expect businesses to do when they strike industrial relations trouble under the new law - have a look at the magnet when they go to the smoko room for a cup of tea?
"If they do use the magnet they'll get no help. All it does is direct people to the Executive Government website.
"At first glance this leaflet looks like a joke - but then you see it is from the Prime Minister's Office it raises some serious questions.
"This is a frivolous use of taxpayers' money to promote a controversial piece of legislation.
"Government relations with business are already frosty. A silly fridge magnet won't thaw them out.
"I've today written to the Auditor General to ask him to check whether the fridge magnet publication fits in with the Audit Office guidelines for Government advertising," Mr Bradford said.
