Remaining Rodney Councillors Should Resign

ACT MP and Rodney resident, Penny Webster today said the only credible course of action for the remaining Rodney District Councillors was to resign and for a Commissioner to be appointed in the interim.

“The people of Rodney deserved better than the debacle that is going on at the moment with their District Council.

“Rodney is one of the fastest growing areas in New Zealand. The Mayor and the Council members who resigned did so in the express hope that it would force some action. They were unable to work with the lies and innuendoes that have been flying about,” she said.

“The Minister of Local Government must appoint a Commissioner who could then appoint a group to run the District until an election. In the Rodney District there is no shortage of people with the local government and local knowledge, experience and business acumen to keep things going.

“The Council staff need reassurance as do the public.

“It is now up to the public to decide who is credible and who is just there for their own ends. This issue is too important to let slide any longer,” said Penny Webster.
