ALLIANCE: Members of the Alliance caucus meet shortly to discuss their role in the new government. The leaders of Labour
and the Alliance will meet again tomorrow. A loose coalition document is expected by the end of the week.
GREENS: The Greens meet in Wellington to discuss what to do from here. They missed out on seats and are now waiting for
special votes.
FARMERS: Federated farmers are opposing Labour’s plans to repeal the ECA and ACC reforms and Labour say the relationship
must now be repaired. Federated Farmers ran a campaign against these policies and Labour say they overstepped the mark.
COUNT: There is complaint over how long it is taking to count votes. Some polling booths have still not returned their
polling boxes and political scientists say it is too slow.
ELECTION: Ninety per cent of voters supported the referenda question on the reform of the justice system and Victoria
University expert Warren Young says the question was very poorly worded and asked too much. Many didn’t understand the
question.
MANAWATU: The Manawatu Council is warning residents to take measures to protect themselves from the Manawatu river which
has broken its banks.
TRAMPERS: Wellington trampers are still in the Orongaronga ranges and Tararuas in appalling weather. Rescue efforts are
being impaired.
CASE: The Wellington Court has been told two men killed a 14 year old boy in Central Wellington by kicking and punching
him in his head.
FLIGHT: A flight carrying emergency supplies is en route to Vanuata after the quake and tsunami which killed at least
eight people and has made hundreds homeless.
MALAYSIA: The election campaign in Malaysia has wrapped up in what both sides agree is the dirtiest campaign in
Malaysian history.
BOMB: At least 40 people were injured and 30 taken to hospital when a pipe bomb exploded in a Cape Town pizza
restaurant. Nobody has claimed responsibility.
RESEARCH: A new study showing the link between cancer and high tensile power lines is due to be published in the UK.
MILLENNIUM: A cancelled Hawkes Bay millennium concert will refund all ticket holders. Poor sales made the project a
failure.
