ALL BLACK LOSS: All Black fans are mourning this morning’s shock loss to France in the Rugby World Cup. But a Wellington man has a smile on his face after winning $60,000 on a $400 bet at 150 to 1. The punter took the profit out of. Chris Trotter thinks the loss will hurt National’s campaign. All Black full back Jeff Wilson hopes Trotter is wrong. Last word to a fan – “I seriously think I’m going to cry – words can’t describe the feeling”.

ALL BLACK LOSS POST-MORTEMS: Call out for some players to be dropped after the shock loss. John McBeth says he has no doubt the axe will fall. The questions should start at the top. All the planning was aimed at the World Cup. Winger Jeff Wilson however says it is a young team at half. I don’t think you will see a gutting of the team. Sean Fitzpatrick agrees that it is a young team. John Hart and Jonah Lomu’s contracts finish next week.

BOY BURNT: Woman charged with assault will appear in Otahuhu court today after a boy was doused with petrol and set alight. He is now in hospital.

NORTH SHORE POLICE: Police say officer numbers on the North Shore have not been cut for the Americas Cup. The North Shore mayor says there are not enough police. Police say the numbers needed for the cup were planned for three years ago.

EGYPTIAN PLANE CRASH: The US Coastguard has found bodies and debris from the Cairo Airways 767 which plunged into the sea an hour after taking off from New York. New Hampshire radio operators said it plunged fast.

INDIAN CYCLONE: Rescuers in India are still struggling to assess the damage done when a cyclone hit the province of Orissa. Thousands are feared dead. Villages have just disappeared says the chief minister of Orissa.

EURO BEEF WARS: France is to review its controversial ban on British Beef following a rejection of the French position by an EU committee of scientists.

ACT ON LOCAL GOVT: ACT launches its local government policy saying it wants Local Governments to privatise services and reform the RMA.

ALLIANCE ON SOCIAL SECURITY: Alliance will introduce new abatement rates to encourage beneficiaries into work.

ADOPTION PAPER: Law Commission releases paper on adoption law and changes to suit modern society. The down side of changing from closed to open adoption is fear of interference. Law Commission says some people do not want matters opened up.

WAIRARAPA NURSES STRIKE: Wairarapa nurses on two-day strike following breakdown in negotiations with the Masterton Hospital. Nurses feel they cannot guarantee patient safety because of staff shortages. Wairarapa Health has cancelled all surgery.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT: Defence Force personnel say they believe that sexual harassment is on the way out in spite of the conviction and discharge of an serviceman from Whenuapai.

SCAMS: Elderly people are being warned that they are target of get-rich-quick schemes. Elderly people are being targeted because they live alone.

YOUTH DRINKING CARDS: The new 18+ proof of age and identity card is being launched today with a $200,000+ advertising campaign. Cards will cost $20.
