ambulance went to the wrong address and arrived after half an hour. The woman who had a heart attack later died but
might have been saved if services arrived quicker.
AGRICULTURE: The Agriculture Quarantine Service is launching spot fines for any breaches of New Zealand’s biosecurity
through customs.
GROZNY: The Chechnyan capital has come under rocket attack. Russia deny it is their troops that are responsible but
rogue Russian troops are under suspicion. Russian units are within firing range. Over 100 people are dead and hundreds
are injured.
HIV: An HIV positive man has pleaded guilty in the Christchurch Court to charges of criminal nuisance after he continued
to have unprotected sex with men, sometimes in Hadley Park’s toilets.
PLUNKET: Plunket says parents should not be concerned about reports that a compound in dummys and bottles can trigger
early puberty.
ALCOHOL: A new alcohol and drug abuse centre has been opened in Auckland today.
SYRINGES: Syringe dispensing machines have been installed in Christchurch and Auckland to help stop infection through
dirty needles.
US: The US has congratulated Indonesia on their new president and vice president and their commitment to democracy.
TIMOR: East Timorese refugees are spilling over the West Timor boundary into East Timor in growing numbers. They say
they have been held in prison camps by pro-Jakarta militia.
UNION: The Auckland Rugby Union is disappointed by sales for this weekend’s NPC final between Auckland and Wellington
tomorrow night. Only a quarter of all seats are sold and the ground is likely to be only half full.
INMATE: An inmate who escaped from Mt Eden prison yesterday is still on the loose. It is his third escape.
