DAM BREACH: Residents who live under the natural dam on a Westland river may be allowed into their homes again this afternoon after the dam burst following heavy rain this morning.
FIRE SERVICE: The Court of Appeal has dismissed all appeals relating to the fire service and the Employment Court ruling that all fire fighters must reapply for their jobs stands.
ALLOWANCES: Daily allowances paid to Kiwi troops in East Timor will double.
AIRCRAFT: An aircraft to leave New Zealand to take troops to Dili has been delayed for an hour today.
LABOUR: Labour is promising to raise standards in early childcare education by raising the teacher/student ratio, screening teachers more closely and better resourcing the sector.
TRUST: An MP involved in an inquiry into a genetic engineering trust said it was doomed to fail. Mark Peck said the trust was compromised because Monsanto also funded it.

MAURI PACIFIC: Mauri Pacific want to introduce Pacific Island and Maori justice systems with the same standing as the New Zealand law, including concepts like Marae justice.
HAWKES BAY: The Hawkes Bay regional hospital registrar has testified that a 76 year old man had potentially life threatening knife wounds in the trial of a Hawkes Bay man accused of attempting to murder a teenager and her neighbour.
