EAST TIMOR: Indonesia has said for the first time that it may be prepared to accept a UN security peace-keeping presence in East Timor if the referendum result is strongly in favour of independence. Australia says it is prepared.

ANSETT STRIKE: Transport Minister Maurice Williamson has said he will speak to the immigration minister about arrangements for foreign pilots to assist Ansett to deal with an epidemic of illness. Ansett has cancelled another 20 flights today due to the sickness of pilots.

ISRAEL: Israel and the Palestinians have failed to clinch a peace deal in time to allow US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to witness the signing.

KOSOVO: K-For has reported an upsurge in violence in Kosovo. Meanwhile the blockade against the Russian's in one Kosovo town has entered its eleventh day.

APEC SECRETS FAXED TO CHICKEN FARMER: A chicken farmer says he has been receiving secret faxes from the Americans concerning APEC preparations.
