1. BALE - The head of the lotteries commission has quit over the row over his salary. David Bale says he does not have the support of the Prime Minister so will go. The attack has turned now on the people who set his salary, the Board. The chair of the Board is a former president of the National Party. Bale was paid $400,000 almost twice other CEOs of similar crown agencies.

2. TAX CUTS - The Government is also in the firing line over tax cuts proposals. The legislation has been shelved because National did not get support from other MPs. National says their allies were being too greedy, Tau Henare says he doesn't understand why they don't want to deals. Delamere and Fletcher say they never asked for anything.

3. PROTOCOL - There has been a last minute effort to include Maori in the welcoming ceremony for leaders to APEC.

4. RUNNER DIES - One of New Zealand's most successful middle distance runner. Sylvia Potts is remembered most of stumbling and falling as she was about to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth games.

5. DIANA - Thousands of people have made the pilgrimage to Princess Diana's former home on the anniversary of her death.
