MEDIA RELEASE FROM WAIKATO POLICE
04 April 2015
Working with family, Waikato Police have been able to formally identify a man killed in Thursday morning's collision between a car and a tree at Ngaruawahia.
District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Freda Grace, said Police had extended their condolences to the family of 24-year-old Hamilton man, Royal Grayson BEAZLEY.
"Mr BEAZLEY died in an ambulance shortly after Police officers searching for a stolen car came across his vehicle crashed into a tree.
"The crash is under investigation by the Waikato Serious Crash Unit and tragically, it appears had Mr BEAZLEY been wearing a seatbelt, the low speed collision may have been survivable."
Mrs Grace said Thursday's crash happened less than 24 hours after a similar one in Hamilton where an elderly man crashed his car into a tree following what is believed to be a medical episode.
"That driver remains in Waikato Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and officers who attended the crash praised those first on the scene.
"Information that we have is that two separate witnesses- a man and a woman, removed the man from the car and administered CPR before Police arrived and an officer took over.
Both Good Samaritans said they were greatly assisted by students from St Johns High School who were at the scene."
Mrs Grace said it was still to be established if the man involved in Wednesday's crash would make a full recovery however the man and woman's actions and those of the students have given him a fighting chance.
"And that's what driving socially is all about.
People will always make mistakes but it's having the will to help someone or the ability to drive in a way to take into account the other bloke's mistakes that can make all the difference."
