Rovers give back with extreme camp makeover

Over 190 Rover Scouts from all over New Zealand will come together this Easter with a huge makeover project at Waingaro Scout camp to help give more young New Zealanders the chance to experience the joy of camping.

Phill Prosser, National Rover Leader for SCOUTS New Zealand is excited to be involved in this key community project which is just one part of the 73rd New Zealand Rover Moot happening over Easter in Karamu. The word ‘moot’ is an Old English word meaning assembly or gathering and Rover Scouts use the word to describe their National and International gatherings.

“Rover Moots are a reward for a job well done over the year”, says Phill Prosser, “and we just love giving back – and have a great time including a Service project as one of the key activities. Community service is a big part of Scouting.”

After the Moot, it is hoped that the camp will be equipped with great infrastructure, such as insulation, new paint, bigger deck space and refurbished sleeping rooms. The grounds are also set to undergo a make-over with weeding, bush clearing, fence repairs and a new campfire in the planning stages.

She’ll Be Right Moot, the 73rd New Zealand Rover Moot is being held in Karamu (2nd April 2015 – 6th April 2015), and also includes activities such as offsite tours, team-building outdoor games, cross country and more.
