Food writers serve up new website

Food writers serve up new website

Foodies have a new, more comprehensive way of staying in touch with industry activities with the launch of the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers’ (NZGFW) new website.

The website has been completely upgraded with a number of new features including a section on upcoming events.

The NZGFW is the professional body for food journalists and others involved in writing about, presenting and teaching about the specialist area of food and beverages.

Guild executive member and website designer Greig Buckley says the new site incorporates improved functionality and a lot more content.

“We wanted to make it easier for members and those interested in food to stay abreast of events and activities. It’s the one place where people can access all they need to know about what we do and where, who does it and what food events and activities are coming up,” Mr Buckley says.

‘Web mistress’ is Trudi Nelson, a member of the NZGFW executive committee. Trudi is also also moderating the NZGFW Facebook page.

The site also enables members to book online to attend events, apply for membership, access white papers and articles and purchase the guild’s own recipe book amongst a range of other options.

It includes links to a host of useful food-related groups including international food writer groups, media and government, industry and educational organisations associated with the industry.

Mr Buckley says a second stage of site development in a few months will include a commercial directory of food products and services of interest to foodies and the industry.

Guild president, Anne Scott says feedback from a host of sources including media, members and sponsors has been instrumental in the design and content of the site.

“NZGFW members can access details about other members, subscribe to receive the guild’s magazine Pen & Palate, and have preferential access to industry and visiting ‘food hero’ events through a member-only portal.

“We also expect it to be of value to media, food industry people and students,” she says.

You can visit the site at www.foodwriters.org.nz.

About the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers

The New Zealand Guild of Food Writers was formed in 1987 as a networking base for food journalists and those in allied occupations to provide opportunities to advance their knowledge of, and interest in, the specialist area of food, beverages and associated services. All members interface with the public in some way – through magazines, newspapers, radio, TV, publishing, teaching, consultancy, PR, catering or photography. The Guild is run by an executive committee of professional members, with regional representatives.
