KEITH MURDOCH: Outback wanderer and former All Black Keith Murdoch has been answering questions in a coroner’s inquiry
about the death of young Aboriginal man Christopher Limerick. Murdoch had been eluding authorities for months. He
achieved notoriety in New Zealand after he was dismissed from a British Isles tour for punching a security guard in the
Seventies. He then disappeared into the Australian outback. Murdoch is believed to have been one of the last people to
have seen Limerick. Murdoch answered all questions put to him as briefly as possible. About the only new information to
come from Murdoch at the inquiry was that a couple of months before Limerick went missing Murdoch found him breaking
into his house.
OUTBACK ORDEAL: British Tourist Joanne Lees, who was ambushed in the Northern Territory outback, has spoken to the media
for the first time, saying she feels positive that the man who abducted her will be caught. She said if he is found she
would like him to say where her boyfriend Peter Falconio, believed to have been shot by the abductor, is.
WHALE SANCTUARY: The proposal for a South Pacific whaling sanctuary, pushed by New Zealand and Australia, didn’t have
enough votes in the International Whaling Council. Japan, who want to hunt for whale meat, is accused of buying votes in
the IWC.
ROBBERS: More serious charges may yet be laid against three youths who robbed a South Auckland man, who later died as a
result of injuries sustained in the robbery. The trio are currently facing aggravated robbery charges.
JAMIESON MURDER: Police searching for the killer of Marie Jamieson are now offering $50,000 for information leading to
an arrest.
YOUTH SUICIDE: New Zealand’s youth suicide rate has fallen to a 12 year low, according to latest statistics.
