Bain Pardon Deferred – Burned Man – Economy – Tua Drops In

- BAIN PARDON DEFERRED: Supporters are angry, as David Bain’s appeal for mercy has been thrown back to the Court of Appeal. The court has been asked to consider a list of key questions about Mr Bain’s murder tria. Mr Bain’s lawyer said Mr Bain was feeling despondent and deflated after not being granted a pardon. Justice Minister Phil Goff said it was not found that there had been a miscarriage of justice in the trial, for the murder of Mr Bain’s family, but said there were inconsistencies in the trial. David Bain’s supporters say his father was the murderer, not David. Police said the court of appeal is the appropriate forum to examine the issues. David Bain is serving a life sentence for the murders.

- BURNED MAN: Auckland Police are considering laying further charges against a man charged with assault during a Christmas party where a man died from burns when his grass skirt costume went up in flames.

- ECONOMY: The Government and Treasury says the economy is strengthening, but economists warn that the world economy is looking uncertain, and that will have as significant impact on New Zealand’s economy. Other political parties say our fortunes will turn quickly if the world economy stumbles, and that is what we need to guard against.

- TUA DROPS IN: Xmas early for hundreds of south Auckland children when heavyweight boxing hero David Tua dropped in.. The Tuaman David Tua upstaged Santa the Santaman Claus. The party is an annual event for the children from 27 South Auckland schools.
