BUSINESS SUMMIT: The Government’s business forum is being held in Auckland today behind closed doors. The government has hand-picked its attendees. The government is expected to announce R&D changes at the forum today. The PM expects the business audience to be more pragmatic about growing NZ than the Business Round Table has been. Auckland Chamber of Commerce’s Michael Barnett says he wants government to build a partnership for the future with business and not bathe in past achievements.
ISRAEL: Reports are coming in that a roadside bomb has exploded in the Gaza strip. Meanwhile more talks are to be held between Ehud Barak and Ariel Sharon on forming a government of national emergency. A Palestinian negotiator is pessimistic about what the talks might mean for peace negotiations. A Likud Party spokesman however thinks that the Likud Party’s inclusion in a new government will help.
GM INQUIRY: The Genetic Modification Royal Commission is hearing a second week of submissions this week. Scientists are expected to say the moratorium is inconvenient.
SUBMARINE SALVAGE: A storm in the Barrents Sea has caused divers working on the sunken Russia submarine Kursk to suspend their work.
NORTH KOREA: The US Secretary of State has held discussions with the North Korean President Kim Jung-Il – the highest level contacts between the US and North Korea.
EXECUTIVE NAPS: A survey in Australia has found one in three executives admit falling to sleep during meetings.
LIONS VICTORY PARADE: The Wellington City Council is holding a victory parade for the Wellington Lions rugby team tomorrow. The parade will begin at the Parliament end of Lambton Quay at 1pm.
