PART TIME JAIL: Revelations that a man on preventative detention since 1987 has been on work release for several years have outraged the anti violent offenders support group Voice. The man was allowed out on the work-to- release programme by former National corrections minister Paul East.
TRANSPORT COSTS: The Road Transprort Forum says that freight rates will have to rise as a result of the latest seven cent rise in diesel prices announced by BP.
WEST BANK GUN FIGHT: A gun battle has broken out on the West Bank neat the Palestinian town of Nablus. The gunfight started between forces providing security for a group of Israeli hikers. An Israeli Colonel says that Palestinian security forces were contacted but did not stop the fighting. Palestinians say the hikers were settlers and that they fired on them. A Palestinian and an Israeli have died in the fighting.
EBOLA: A team of UN medical experts have arrived in Uganda to help treat the outbreak of Ebola virus.
FIJIAN CHILD SEX: Save the children says one way to stop child prostitution in Fiji is to educate the children. Australian sex tourists are considered to be the main source of the problem.
MAORI OIL CLAIMS: A Taranaki Iwi is confident that the Waitangi Tribunal will find in its favour over its claim to oil reserves in Taranaki.
BONE DISEASE: Osteo-porosis NZ is planning to provide free bone density scans to those at risk of getting the disease – and thereby saving the health system lots of money.

WARRIORS: Members of the World Champion Australian Rugby League Team are considering boycotting the Rugby World Cup in protest at the failure of the new owners of the Auckland Warriors to roll over player contracts.
