SINGAPORE TRADE AGREEMENT: Labour and National are negotiating to try and keep the Singapore Free Trade deal from the
scrap heap. National is basically in favour of the deal but objects to one clause. Jenny Shipley met with Trade Minister
Jim Sutton last night.
SINGAPORE AGREEMENT: The Trade Union Federation is warning that the agreement could be used to bring sweat-shop produced
Indonesian goods into NZ.
SLOW FERRY: Fast Ferry operators are considering legal action after a local authority decided to limit their speed in
Tory Channel and Queen Charlotte Sound to 18 knots. The change is expected to add 30 min
UK OIL PROTESTS: UK PM Tony Blair says oil companies are prepared to start bringing oil through blockades under police
escort. Blair says pickets should not dictate policy.
S11: Protestors are planning on resuming their protests around the Crown Casino in Melbourne today. Protestors were
swept aside last night to let delegates out of the forum. 18 protests were injured in the melee.
AUSTRIA: Dipolomatic sanctions against Austria are to be lifted. The sanctions were imposed because of the inclusion of
the far-right Freedom party in government.
OLYMPICS: The Olympic Games begin in two days. Ticket scalpers are reducing prices to topline events.
CRICKET: Former Indian cricket star Kapil Dev has resigned from the Indian cricket team.
CRICKET: Chris Cairns has picked up 161 test wickets in the first test in Zimbabwe, putting him in the second place
behind Richard Hadlee among top wicket takers.
