- PALMERSTON NORTH DOUBLE MURDER: Police in Palmerston North are warning people to lock their doors after a mother and daughter were found murdered in their Palmerston North house. Police are hunting the killer. Police believe the pair were killed some time on Tuesday night.

It is one of 5 murder inquiries stretching police resources around the country.

Thee men appeared in court in Christchurch charged with the murder of the man found dead on a walking track outside Christchurch.

Arrests have yet to be made in three other North Island murder inquiries.

- MOE COMMUNICATIONS CONTRACT: The Auditor General has been called in to investigate a $9 million contract with the Ministry of Education. A former Ministry of Education director now works for the company that won the communications contract. The contract will cover mail-outs and publicity to encourage Maori into education. There has been no official complaint about the contract, but there have been murmurings of discontent.

- DASH-8 CRASH: The system that warns a plane is flying too low came under scrutiny in the hearings on the Ansett Dash-8 plane that crashed near Palmerston North, killing four people. An antenna which fed information to the altitude gauge was corroded and painted over.

- FATAL CAR CRASH: A honeymooning couple were involved in a road crash which killed three people. The woman is dead and her husband seriously injured.

- DIANA’S DEATH: The crash which killed Lady Diana happened three years ago in Paris – people commemorated her death in Wellington by going to the Diana’s Dresses exhibition.

- DIANA CONSPIRACY: The father of Dodi Al Fayed, who died with Diana, has claimed the American secret service are covering up facts around the accident.

- KIWI OLYMPIC JOB SEEKERS: Turangi job seekers at the Sydney Olympics were told they wouldn’t get licenses in time to work on security, but have since been told they can start next week

- LIFT ORDEAL: A lift in Melbourne plummeted to basement level with a man inside and flooded with water. 45 minutes after the man’s ordeal began he was rescued.
