STEVEN WALLACE: The Police Commissioner says he is satisfied that all the evidence gathered in the shooting of Steven Wallace has been considered by the police inquiry. MP Georgina Beyer is concerned that evidence gathered by the lawyer acting for the family has not been considered.
STEVEN WALLACE: Government Maori MPs say it is essential the Police Complaints Authority runs a complete and open inquiry involving Steven Wallace’s family.
SUBMARINE: Russia has asked Norway and Britain to help with rescue efforts at the site of a Russian Submarine trapped on the Arctic seabed. Norway was been asked to supply divers and the British have flown a submersible to Norway. The help will not reach the site till Sunday.
DOCTORS STRIKE: Northland Health says it has no choice but to cancel elective surgery in advance of a Junior Doctors Strike. Other hospitals have still to announce their contingency plans.
LGNZ: Wellington City Council will decide tonight whether or not to withdraw from Local Government NZ. The meeting follows comments from Wellington Mayor Mark Blumsky. Meanwhile Zone 3 councils have supported a call for a national gathering of members of LGNZ.
PRISONS: The announcement that Mt Eden Prison is to be demolished has been welcomed by the Howard League for penal reform. Two new prisons will be built.
SPRINKLERS: A new study released by the Fire Service Commission says that if sprinkler systems were installed in homes then there would be fewer fires, deaths and property damage. A sprinkler system can be installed for $1000.
CONCORDE: Authorities investigating the Concorde crash last month have concluded that a tyre burst was the cause of the accident. British Aviation authorities have suspended flights of Concorde on the basis of the finding. 113 people died when the
HUMAN CLONING: Proposals by the British Government to relax rules on human cloning have been applauded by medical experts, including researchers into Parkinsons.
ALL BLACKS: The All Blacks starting 15 for the match against South Africa is the same as that which played against Australia. Two changes have been made to the reserves with Scott Robertson and Prop Greg Sommervil.
