SAMUELS DEADLOCK: The Maori Affairs Minister Dover Samuels is set to lose his cabinet seat with Prime Minister Helen Clark talking to her advisors about ways to sack Mr. Samuels. It seems she is giving Mr. Samuels one last chance to resign himself today.

SAMUELS FUTURE: There is a question of whether Mr. Samuels will remain in Parliament as a back bencher if he is sacked or leave Parliament altogether.

FIJI MILITARY ULTIMATUM: Fiji’s military says the coup leaders may lose their amnesty if they refuse to sign the accord by six o’clock this evening.

SOLOMONS PM ELECTIONS: The Solomon Islands opposition leader has promised peace an am amnesty for fighting guerrilla groups if he is elected Prime Minister.

TRANS RAIL INQUIRY: The Government says it’s inquiry into safety standards into Trans Rail will focus on the company’s employee safety record.

WOOL EXPORTS: Wools of New Zealand, a group which promotes New Zealand wool overseas, says it welcomes a report identifies ways of making New Zealand wool exports more profitable.

ZIMBABWE ELECTIONS: The head of the Commonwealth team investigating the Zimbabwe elections has criticised the violence in a lead up to the poll, but has stepped back from calling the elections biased or unfair.

POLICE OFFICERS SENTENCED: Four New York police officers convicted of the brutal sexual torture of a Haitian immigrant have received lengthy prison sentences.

SCHOOLS CLOSE: Surface flooding on roads has caused two schools in the far north to close for a day.

PARTNER SOUGHT: The police are hunting for Keith Ray London, the 41 year old partner of an Auckland woman, who died from gunshot wounds yesterday. They believed he may be armed and dangerous.

ROAD ADVISORY: The Police are advising motorists to avoid State Highway 2 between Whakatane and Gisborne after a tanker overturned on the road early this morning.

PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS: The Health Department has gone into a six month study into the impact of sex-enhancing drugs on patients relationships.
