DRIVER SENTENCED: Families are disgusted with a 42 day prison sentence handed over to a Rotorua truck driver whose careless driving killed four women. The driver was revealed to have been involved in another accident in which he almost decapitated a woman.
ABORTIONS UP: Latest figures from Statistics New Zealand show abortions have gone up and youth workers are saying the increase is due to women’s fears about using the 3rd generation contraceptive pills.
TAXI DRIVER STABBED: The taxi driver stabbed to death in Lower Hutt was a recent Sri Lankan immigrant who had only been in the country for three years. Police say they have not established the reason for why the driver was in the Lower Hutt suburb early in the morning. He had not taken any fares.
KYLIE JONES MURDER: Police are tracing the last steps tonight of the young journalist, Kylie Jones, murdered in Glen Innes on Tuesday night. Police are questioning commuters on the local busses to see if they saw anything suspicious on the night of the murder.
SAFE DRIVING CAMPAIGN: A tough new road advertisement campaign directed at young fast-driving teenage males was previewed by the LTSA today at an Auckland school.
