COMPUTER SYSTEM DUMPED: Health Waikato has dumped it’s controversial new computer system from an American company, Shared Medical Systems, before it has been properly implemented. Health Minister Annette King is calling for the resignation of two board members after the system lost government between $10-18 million.

COMPUTER SYSTEM DUMPED: Captial Coast Health, has also abandoned a computer programme it brought from Shared Medical Systems.

NATIVE RIMU LOGGING: The Finance Minister Michael Cullen says he will be advocating in Cabinet to seek the continuation of contracts in native Rimu logging. Prime Minister Helen Clark is understood to have concerns on how Mr Cullen and Jim Anderton are handling the issue.

TIMBERLANDS LOGGING: Timberlands contracts to continue logging Rimu on the West Coast are worth over $20 million. At a regional level about 50 jobs are completley dependant on the contract.

WAITARA MEETING: Community leaders are meeting with Police in Waitara to see how peace can be kept in the town after the shooting of a young man in the town by a police officer.The New Zealand Maori Council is calling for an immediate public inquiry into the Waitara shooting.

CANCER INQUIRY: Alarming figures about the state’s efforts to control all types of cancer have been given to the Cervical Screening Cancer Inquiry in Gisborne.

NUCLEAR MISSILES: The five permanent members of the UN security council have given a joint assurance that their nuclear weapons are now no longer targeted at any state.

PHILLIPINES HOSTAGES: Food medicine and clothing have been delivered to 21 hostages held by a radical Muslim group on an Island in the Philippines. Meanwhile Philippine forces are searching for another group of hostages held on another island.

SECURITY CAMERA OFFER: A principle of an Auckland high school is offering to install a security camera in a local shop to stop students making racist taunts to a Cambodian shopkeeper.

CYCLING ACCIDENTS: Figures from the Authority show that 13 people have killed cycling on the road a seeming reversal on previous year’s figures which were decreasing.

US ACTORS STRIKE: Actors across the United States are protesting today against the flat fee given to them for television advertisments, wanting a pay for play issue.

CAA CASE DISMISSED: A judge has dismissed a case taken by a Civil Aviation Authority against a 70-year-old pilot who was flying without a medical certificate.
