Greens Could Get Seventh MP on Specials

The Greens are looking good to get their seventh MP into parliament as a result of the special votes which are still being counted.

The Greens took six MPs into parliament when Jeanette Fitzsimons won the seat of Coromandel on the specials last night but if the party can get up around 5.2 per cent of the party vote they will qualify for a seventh MP as well.

That would be Green party international relations spokesperson Keith Locke.

Scoop understands that Keith is currently on track to make it to parliament.

Of the dozen electorate specials that have now been counted the Greens are increasing their election night vote by between .1 to .65 per cent with an average of .3 per cent.

This is what they will roughly need to go from their election night 4.9 per cent – just shy of the five per cent threshold – to around the 5.15 or 5.2 per cent that is required to get Keith Locke into parliament.

All is looking good for this to happen but with counting still very much under way nobody in the Green camp is counting their chickens.

If the Greens do succeed in getting another seat that seat would most likely come from National or ACT.
