Kiwi Suing Internet Giant Yahoo
New Zealander Juliette Harrington, is suing Internet giant Yahoo! for allegedly infringing on a patent for her software that allows people to compare prices for goods and services sold over the Internet. John Howard reports.
The copyright infringement claim was filed on Wednesday in St Lois by SBH Inc on behalf of Juliette Harrington. She had engaged St Lois-based SBH to market her software.
Harrington holds a US patent for her software which simplifies the online shopping process by allowing consumers to use one shopping trundler to buy products online. Shoppers can choose products and services from mutliple Internet sites but only need to check-out at one location using the technology.
Yahoo! shopping also features a one shopping trundler system as part of its service but the law suit alleges Yahoo! has made no licensing arrangements with SBH to use the patented technology.
The president of SBH, Steven Schuver, said he has been unsuccessful in efforts to negotiate with Yahoo!
Yahoo! is directing calls on the issue to a marketing agency who says it does not respond to pending law suits.
