The House: Last Night And Today
Following the completion of a confidence vote (see previous story), MPs returned to the Home Invasion legislation.
Debate was as passionate and divided as it had been during all stages of the passage of this controversial legislation. Amongst the rhetoric, Labour's Phil Goff indicated that if his party takes the Treasury benches following the next election they would look to repeal the Bill as it created too many arbitrary anomalies based around where a crime was committed, not the crime itself.
The House rose before a final vote could be taken
and the final vote will be dealt with on Thursday. Today the
House's time is taken up with general debate and Members'
Bills. See 'The House: The Week Ahead', in Tuesday's
'Headlines' wire for
details.
