Parliament Restarts - After a week break, Parliament continues its long winter session today. This morning RNZ is reporting that in a straw poll of backbenchers, eleven of twenty three believe Cabinet needs to improve its performance. The MPs point to poor issues management in matter such as the Tourism Board, the Fire Service, electricity price increases, the new driver licensing system, the Incis police computer and increased funding for minority Government supporter, Alamein Kopu as damaging chances of re-election.

Another Party - Frank Grovcr, the wandering Alliance MP, will take his seat in Parliament as a member of Christian Heritage today. He is expected to receive a less than cordial reception from his former caucus members.

Solomon Islands - Growing violence in the Solomon Islands has led to New Zealand's High Commissioner there to re-iterate a warning to Kiwis not to travel to the area unless it's essential. There has been escalating tension between the indigenous people of the main island of Guadalcanal who resent the presence of settlers from Malaita Island.
