PM's Post-Cabinet Press Conference 18/2/19: China Relations And Digital Services
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern began her weekly press conference with a statement emphasising the ongoing strenth of New
Zealand's relationship with China and suggesting corrections or context for recent reports of problems.
She was joined by Revenue Minister Stuart Nash to announce cabinet's decision to work towards a digital services tax for foreign companies offering online services in New Zealand.
Ardern and Nash discussed the tax plan with media, followed by Ardern taking questions on China, reports the UK might be
able to 'mitigate' security risks around Huawei involvement in 5G networks, a cybersecurity breach at the Australian
parliament, Australia's re-opening of the Christmas Island detention centre, labour standards at motels used for
temporary housing, Pike River re-entry and missing pieces of evidence in the mine explosion investigation, and Minister
of Conservation Eugenie Sage's comments on GE controls for possums.
