PM's Post-Cabinet Press Conference: Fire and Economic Policy
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was joined by Minister of Civil Defence Kris Faafoi to discuss the government response to the fires in the Nelson Tasman region. This included the announcement of an additional $50,000 for the mayoral relief fund on top of government agency responses and support. Some evacuees are expected to return to their homes this evening, but will remain on alert.
Ms Ardern also reminded the press gallery of the outline of the government's agenda, in anticipation of a speech giving details of the year's work programme when the house resumes.
She also answered questions on the Air New Zealand flight which was turned back from Shanghai and New Zealand's relationship with China, progress on the Whanau Ora report, recent immigration cases in the entrepreneur category, progress on the zero carbon bill, political questions in polling by Inland Revenue, housing and the economy, and the possibility of a visit from Australia opposition leader Bill Shorten.
