PM's Post-Cabinet Press Conference 12/11/18: Abuse And Neglect Inquiry Expanded
The Prime Minister's Beehive press conference this afternoon focussed on announcements around the royal commission of inquiry into abuse and neglect. The inquiry will now extend to religious as well as state institutions. It will now be know as
the Royal Commission into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-Based Institutions. Other inquiry
members were also announced, along with an initial budget. Ms Ardern was joined by inquiry head Sir Anand Satyanand and
Minister of Internal Affairs Tracey Martin for the announcement and subsequent questions.
Other topics included Shane Jones correcting answers to written questions having omitted 61 meetings, the report into the process of appointing Wally Haumaha as Deputy Police Commissioner, the performance the immigration minister in the Karel Sroubek case, the current teachers
strike and offer, and Niue and the Cook Islands joining China's Belt and Road Initiative.
