PM's Post-Cabinet Press Conference 8/10/18: I Pity The Fuel
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was joined by Energy and Resources Minister Megan Woods and Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Kris Faafoi to announce plans to use forthcoming commerce legislation to investigate the fuel market. She said importer magins had caused a disproportionate amount of the last decade's petrol price increase and prices had become more uneven across the country. The government will be prioritising the second and third readings of the bill.
There were questions around this and other topics including NZTE's promotion of New Zealand water bottling investment, the Meka Whaitiri inquiry, GST on sanitary products, a Chinese company's offer on Penlink funding, the upgrade of the the Prime Minister's residence Premier House, the apparent murder of a Saudi journalist by the Saudi Arabian government, a human rights complaint on abortion access and the upcoming Law Commission report, adoption law, the newly announced clean water policy and the farmer response, and the possiblity of UK entry into the CPTPP trade agreement.
