Advance voting surges, enrolments slightly down
The Electoral Commission says 1,240,740 people cast votes ahead of Election Day, compared to 717,579 in 2014.
Yesterday 253,473 people voted. This compares to the 160,467 votes cast on the last day before the 2014 Election Day.
The latest available numbers show just over 3.2 million people were enrolled to vote at 6pm last night. This is 91% of
eligible voters compared to the 92.6% of eligible people were enrolled in 2014.
Enrolments among 18 to 24-year-olds and 25 to 29-year-olds were similar to or lower than 2014 numbers. 70% of eligible
voters aged 18 to 24 had enrolled, compared to 72% in 2014.
However, people enrolling late yesterday afternoon and up to midnight, are unlikely to be included in these numbers.
In 2014, 76.7% of all enrolled people voted. The turnout rate amongst 18 - 24-year-olds was 62.73%. Amongst those aged
24 to 29, 62.1% of enrolled voters turned up to vote.
