This event will focus on positive ideas and solutions we can potentially harness to move New Zealand towards becoming a better society for all by 2040 (200 years after the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi).

Expert speakers will discuss solutions to the following top 5 election and societal issues as identified by Scoop readers in our HiveMind participatory engagement discussion:
1. Environment, 2. Housing, 3. Health, 4. Inequality and 5. The future of work.

Speakers/Panelists include:
Nicky Hager (Journalist, Author of Hit and Run)
Geoff Simmons (The Opportunities Party)
Susan Cullen
Mike Joy (Massey University)
Lucy Telfar Barnard (Housing expert at the University of Otago Wellington)
Robert Whitaker (Renters United)
David Bott (Strategy 2040)
Nick Gerritsen (CrispStart, PressPatron)
Marianne Elliott (ActionStation)
Max Harris (Rhodes Scholar, Legal advocate and author)
Alex Clark (PressPatron)
Paul Barber (Closer Together, NZCCSS)
John Pennington (Public Engagement Projects)
Transparency International New Zealand
Lindsay Shelton (Wellington Scoop)
Joseph Cederwall (Scoop, the Open News project)
And more to come...

Music on the evening will be provided by Mara TK, Lake South and Ruth Mundy all of whom explore strong social and political themes in their work.

We will have books, t-shirts and diaries for silent auction as well as giveaways (both online over the week leading up to the event and at the event itself).

There will also be tasty food and drinks donated by our generous sponsors.

The event will also be live streamed on this page so if you're not in Wellington, bookmark this page now and check in and spread the word online to help us reach our goal of $30,000 to make this ambitious project to “open the Election” in 2017 a reality. You can also get involved online by submitting a question or comment on twitter via the #OpeningTheElection Hashtag.

The campaign has under two weeks to go and we really need Scoop supporters to dig deep to ensure Scoop can have an impact in this election year and continue providing independent public interest media and information to the NZ public. We look forward to a fun evening.

Thank you for your support
