Environmental Reporting Bill Passes

Published: Thu 24 Sep 2015 03:13 PM
The Environmental Reporting Bill has completed its third reading.
The Bill creates a national-level environmental reporting system with regular domain report and comprehensive synthesis studies.
The Bill was opposed by Labour, the Greens and NZ First despite them agreeing with the new regime in principle. The main point of opposition was the Bill would allow the minister to set the scope of the areas to be reported on.
The Bill completed its third reading by 63 to 58 with National, Maori Party, ACT and United Future in favour.
MPs then began the third reading of the Tariff (Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea) Amendment Bill.
