Extended Hours Next Week For Third Readings

The Government will use Extended Hours provisions next Thursday to pass a number of bills.

Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said next week the Government would give priority to a number of bills including the Accident Compensation (Financial Responsibility and Transparency) Amendment Bill, Passports Amendment Bill (No 2) and Tariff (Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea) Amendment Bill.

Mr Brownlee moved the House to sit on Thursday morning to complete the third readings of the Environmental Reporting Bill, Standards and Accreditation Bill, New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income Amendment Bill, and Taxation (New Zealand Superannuation and Retirement Income) Bill. This motion was passed by 63 to 58 with Labour, Green and NZ First opposed.

A petition was presented asking the House investigate attitudes to the closure of Maori boarding schools.

Annual Reports were presented from the Electricity Authority and the NZ Life Serve. The statement of performance expectations of NZ Education was presented.

Three bills were introduced. These were:

The Telecommunications (Interception Capability and Security) Amendment Bill in the name of Clare Curran.

The Climate Change (Divestment from Fossil Fuels) Bill in the name of Russel Norman.

The Social Security (Pathway to Work) Amendment Bill in the name of Carmel Sepuloni.
