Former Principal Family Court Judge Peter Boshier is set to become the new Chief Ombudsman when Dame Beverley Wakem
retires later this year.
The Officers of Parliament Committee recommended the House approve Judge Boshier’s appointment after gaining all parties
approval.
Dame Beverley was appointed as an Ombudsman in 2005 and has been Chief Ombudsman since November 2007. Dame Beverley has
indicated her intention to resign towards the end of 2015. In the light of this, the committee has been searching for a
replacement with Judge Boshier chosen to become first an Ombudsman and to undertake the role of Chief Ombudsman later.
Judge Peter Boshier currently is a Law Commissioner
He was born and educated in Gisborne and attended Victoria University of Wellington, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws with
Honours Degree in 1975. After a period of practice in Wellington he was appointed as a District Court Judge with a
specialist Family Court warrant in 1988.
In 2004 Judge Boshier was appointed as the Principal Family Court Judge and held that position until December 2012.
The Officers of Parliament Committee also recommended Greg Schollum be appointed Deputy Controller and Auditor-General
for a term not exceeding 5 years with effect from September 2015.
He will replace Phillippa Smith who has been the Deputy Controller and Auditor-General since 2005 and has not sought a
further term.
